Soft, spiced, and dotted with melting chocolate, these pumpkin squares capture the feeling of autumn in every bite. They’re the kind of bars that disappear quickly at gatherings, though they taste just as good when enjoyed alone with a quiet cup of tea.

Searing the Beef

Using mostly granulated sugar keeps these bars light, while a small amount of brown sugar adds depth.
These taste even better the next day once the spices settle.
Try sprinkling extra chocolate chips on top before baking for a decorative finish.

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x13-inch pan with parchment, leaving enough overhang to lift the bars out later.

These bars are tender, warmly spiced, and generously studded with chocolate chips. Pumpkin puree keeps the crumb moist while the blend of sugars gives both depth and balance. Perfect for sharing at a fall gathering or savouring as a quiet indulgence, they carry the flavours of the season in each bite.

about me

I’ll preface this by saying I’m not a chef — just someone who loves to cook and needed a place to gather and share the recipes that have shaped my kitchen.

From the classics that are always on rotation to the discoveries I’ve stumbled upon along the way, you’ll find them here. Each recipe is shared in its original form, with Anthology’s Notes added at the end to reflect the tweaks and touches that suit our table.

Over the years I’ve tried to make many recipes my own, so you’ll also see those variations woven in.

Basically: cook, taste, adjust, and repeat.
